Meet Kathy & Jim...
Married in 1992, Jim and Kathy Hart are passionate about two things in this world – animals and music. Kathy has been active in animal rescue since she was old enough to walk and Jim, enlightened by his wife’s passion, soon shared her devotion to animals. Before starting the sanctuary in 2006, Kathy and Jim were active canine/feline foster parents – opening their hearts and home to well over 200 dogs and cats in need of temporary shelter.
Their love of music is what brought them together. Kathy traveled for years in a cross country road band – sometimes featured on drums but most often, as a vocalist. Once off the road and as the years went by, Kathy picked up the bass, became a singer/songwriter and still uses the instrument to pen her many songs.
Jim took up the drums in 6th grade and to this day, he continues to supplement his profession as a factory musical instrument representative, playing numerous gigs with many local bands in the Northern California area.
When they opened their gates to become a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue organization, they decided to call the sanctuary HartSong – #1, their last name is Hart and #2, in tribute to their love of music. Hence, the word “Song” in HartSong Ranch.
Many, many of the songs Kathy writes are inspired by animals yet most would never know this detail because her lyrical style – when it comes to animals – is purposely vague. Currently in the studio recording “Why do you suppose? – “Sooner or later” – “When forever” and “Wouldn’t you, me too?”…
All songs inspired by animals – will soon be available for download on this site.
